CONCERT CHOIR 8 – 12 (MMU--08CHO, MMU--09CHO, MMCC-10, MCMCC11, MCMCC12) Prerequisite: None.
Students choosing to sing in the Concert Choir rehearse during lunch hour (Period 6). They learn the techniques for effective vocal production, ear training, and sight reading. The class surveys and studies all aspects of quality choral literature in all styles. This experience is open to any student who wishes to work in a singing ensemble at the school.
In the Spring, the parts of the choir meet afterschool once a week in a men’s ensemble called the Troubadours or a ladies ensemble called the Seraphims. These groups are chosen by the director and the section leaders.
MAGEE CHAMBER CHOIR 9 – 12 (MMU–09CHC, YVPA-0A, YVPA-1ACHC, YVPA-2ACHC) Prerequisite: Audition required. Previous choral experience in the Magee Concert Choir strongly recommended.
In this high level ensemble, students engage in a serious study of a cappella literature from a variety of periods and styles. Students in this ensemble should expect to learn a large repertoire and participate in a multitude of performances. Students are expected to focus on upper level concepts of vocal production, style techniques and related theory. They also take on leadership roles within the Concert Choir.
Students accepted into this ensemble are required to concurrently enroll in Concert Choir and sing in either the Troubadours or Seraphims.
EVOLUTION CHAMBER CHOIR 9-12 (MMU–09ENS, MMVJ-10, MCMJV11, MCMJV12) Prerequisite: Audition required. Previous choral experience in the Magee Concert Choir strongly recommended.
In this ensemble, students are given the opportunity to study a cappella literature at an intermediate skill level in a small ensemble setting. Students will learn correct vocal production, sight singing, rhythm training, style techniques and related theory.
Students accepted into this ensemble are required to concurrently enroll in Concert Choir and sing in either the Troubadours or Seraphims. |
