The Magee Chamber Choir is one of 6 choirs at Magee Secondary School in Vancouver BC. This auditioned ensemble, composed of senior level students, are dedicated to creating music at a very high level of choral artistry in a variety of styles and genres. In addition to being in the Chamber Choir, each member of the group is involved in at least 3 other ensembles including the large 140 voice Concert Choir, a small Vocal Ensemble, and either a Men’s or Ladies ensemble, all directed by Mr. Greg Quan.
They have been invited to perform at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Paralympics, in Japan at the Peace Memorial Cathedral in Hiroshima, in St. Petersburg Russia, and all over British Columbia on their own and with other amateur and professional choirs. In March 2011, they toured Germany, Austria, Italy, and Hungary, where they performed in such renowned locations as the San Marco Basilica in Venice, the Dom Cathedral in Salzburg, and the Wieskirche Cathedral in Bavaria – a World UNESCO site.
The members of the Magee Chamber Choir are devoted to the pursuit of musical excellence and the sharing of musical joy. |

The Magee String Orchestra is made up of 40 talented members from grades 8 through 12 who rehearse for one hour 2 to 3 times a week. Working on a vast array of repertoire, they have been challenged by transcriptions of major works, as well as pieces with varied styles and tempi. From Mozart and Beethoven to Strauss to fiddle tunes and Irish reels, this group has no boundaries in its drive to continually improve and to explore all facets of music. Especially because the group is so diverse in the member’s experience, (we have students who have played for 2 years and some who have played for 14) we have built a special kinship of mentoring and encouraging each other. The one thing about this ensemble is that whatever they are playing, whether it is a sweet fluid line that makes the heart quiver, or a bouncing melody to get your toes tapping, they always play with energy and passion. We love to share our music with others and we hope that you enjoy the Magee Strings! |
