The next Thursday, April 18th, we will be welcoming the Burnaby Central Chamber Choir, under the direction of Ms. Carrie Taylor, and the Langley Fine Arts School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Mr. Jim Sparks, in a joint concert with our Chamber Choir at Magee. Also a 7pm start in the auditorium – admission by donation. It should be a magical night of Choral Singing!
Then on Thursday the 25th the String Orchestra will host a concert in the Atrium with three of our neighbouring Elementary Schools: David Lloyd George, Sexsmith, and Lord Tennyson – all under the baton of our previous student teacher, Ms. Candace Fong. It will be a short and sweet evening of string music! Also a 7pm start in the Atrium.
May 9th, the Chamber Choir has been asked to sing at the Opening Ceremonies of a Mindfulness Conference at the Dalia Llama Center at UBC at which over 400 delegates will be in attendance including Movie Celebrities and local political figures.
Then on Thursday May 16th, we will be having our annual concert with the St Patrick’s Regional School Chamber Choir, under the direction of our dear friend, Mr. Tony Araujo. As always, it will take place at the St Pat’s Church on Main and 12th and will start at 7pm. Admission by donation.
On Friday May 24th we will be having a special concert with the Band and Choir from Lake Washington High School. Lake Washington High hail from just outside of Seattle and we will be having a free concert with them at 7pm in our auditorium. Love to have you come join us as they hosted us last year when we went on our Seattle/Portland tour. |

Fundraising is just a part of the life here at Magee where we work hard to raise money to help our students have the absolute best experience that they possibly can without having to worry about how much it’s going to cost. So we have many opportunities for students to fundraise - many of which, the profits go directly into the student’s account, while others go into scholarships or subsidies for tours.
Cheques should be made out to “Magee Music Society”

· Gift Cards - Many gift cards including supermarkets, restaurants, retail, gas, and services - a percentage going back to the students If you’re going to buy food or gas, why not have a percentage come back to the students?

Magee Chamber Choir CD’s Own their premier CD entitled “For the Beauty…” for the low price of $15 - all proceeds go to benefit the Magee Choral Department Stay Tuned, for the next CD’s will be coming out soon: “Alleluia” will be recorded this spring and a Christmas CD entitled “Sing We Now of Christmas” will be finished up very soon! |

Late Spring Edition |

Spring break is over and we are on the road to the end of our journey for this year. Although, we are full steam ahead right until the end!
Over Spring Break, we had an incredible experience in Spain. The people were so welcoming and appreciative of the music and of the students professionalism and the culture and sights we saw and heard and felt were absolutely amazing. We performed in Barcelona, Granada, Seville, and Madrid and all were breathtaking venues (especially the cathedrals!) and standing ovations!
Through April and May we still have quite a few concerts that we hope to see you at! The first concert will take place on Thursday April 11th and is A Classical Evening in which we are bringing back the Fabulous Esther Hwang Trio (Esther is one of our SPARTS Violin students who has played internationally and has even been featured at Carnegie Hall) as well as the Concert Choir will be singing movements from Mozart’s Requiem with full orchestra. In addition, the concert will also feature the String Orchestra and the Chamber Choir as well as the Seraphim Ladies Choir and Troubadours Men’s Choir. A 7pm start in the Magee Auditorium. Then we get to our final concerts, Junior night on Tuesday May 28th (Gr 8 & 9 band, Junior Jazz Band, Concert Choir & Evolution Choir) and our Senior night on Thursday May 30th (Symphonic Band, String Orchestra, Sr. Jazz Band, Chamber Choir, Wind Ensemble). Both of those will be a 7pm start and tickets are $5 from students at the school or through the office (604 713 8200) or at the door.
But it’s not over yet!
The following Monday, on June 3rd, the String Orchestra will join the Little Night Music Orchestra for a wonderful evening of music at 7:30pm in the Magee Auditorium. And then on Saturday June 8th, the Chamber Choir will be performing at St Andrew’s Wesley Cathedral in downtown Vancouver with the Soul City Gospel Choir, under the direction of Mr. Brian Tate. This should be a really neat way to finish out the year with a great choir!
One more concert on July 4th – the Chamber Choir has been asked to perform by our Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Steve Cardwell, at a special concert for School Trustees from across Canada. It is a very special honour to kick off their national conference.
Aside from the concerts, we have a very special annual fundraiser for this spring and that is our SPRING PLANT SALE! Beautify your home and garden with our gorgeous selection of planters and hanging baskets! Deadline for orders in April 26th and delivery to the school for pickup will be Wednesday May 8th.
